net impact's Story

Our founders created Yale Undergraduate Net Impact with the mission of exposing Yale students to social entrepreneurship. Net Impact is an international organization with over 30,000 members and 300 chapters worldwide that focuses on bridging the gap between the business world and the social sector. While Yale’s School of Management has one of the leading chapters in the country, Yale College was, until recently, lacking on any outlet for social enterprise.
Yale College's chapter of Net Impact was founded in Fall 2012 by Kara Sheppard-Jones, Schuyler Arakawa and Kaity Hsieh. They have grown the organization on three core principles:

Ezra Stiles 2016 I am a Political Science Major interested in the political complexities and implications behind corporate social responsibility in Big Business. I am firmly committed to the work that we do here at Net Impact because I believe in our mission to change the way the world thinks about entrepreneurship and social change through business and innovation. Outside of Net Impact I regularly play pick up basketball, watch Bollywood movies, and I love travel to new and exciting places.

I'm an Economics major from Morse College. I'm really drawn towards the unique organizational, operational, and financial challenges that social enterprises face. Outside of Net Impact, I love to read Russian novels and I just recently picked up Chinese cooking.

I am a prospective Economics and Mathematics major interested promoting financial inclusion through microcredit and social investment. My background is in consulting for and collaborating with organizations built around a double bottom line. Outside of Net Impact and social enterprise, my passions are boxing, cooking, and Asian-American activism.

Saybrook 2018 I am a prospective Political Science major interested in how the private sector can help to promote more efficiency within the social sector. Specifically, I enjoy exploring innovative ways to empower adolescent girls with social enterprise. Outside of Net Impact, I love to sing loudly and out-of-tune, Irish dance, African dance on the Yale team, and laugh at terrible puns.

I am an Environmental Engineering major passionate about technology, innovation, and green design. I am interested the power of social enterprise to promote a more environmentally and socially sustainable workplace and world. Outside of Net Impact, I enjoy playing flute in the Davenport Pops Orchestra, binge-watching Netflix, and baking all sorts of chocolatey food.

I’m a biomedical engineering and economics major, hailing from Plano, Texas. I believe that the key to a better world lies in entrepreneurship and innovation, and I strive to embody those values in our work at Net Impact. Social enterprise is a powerful tool for good, and I am specifically interested in its applications in the venture capital industry. Beyond Net Impact, I love to watch sports, play violin with the Davenport Pops Orchestra, and continue my quest to watch all of YouTube.

Board Member 2012-3 I am a Chemical Engineering major and part of the newly established Energy Studies program. As such, my main interest is in green, alternative, and renewable energy system development. Outside of Net Impact I spend most of my time playing for the Yale Men's Rugby Club.

TRUMBULL 2015 I am Ethics, Politics & Economic student who is passionate about technology and innovation. I enjoy fast-paced, difficult situations and working with awesome people--which is why I love our team at Net Impact :). My favorite part of building our chapter is the lack of established norms. It's exciting to figure out what exactly are the best ways to achieve our mission.

TRUMBULL 2015 I am Political science major interested in innovation and efficiency in the social sector and in public-private partnerships. My experience is mostly in international development and government. I love salsa dancing and baking desserts!

SAYBROOK 2015 I am a Humanities major interested in market-based solutions to poverty and international development. My experience centers on social enterprise and consulting for mission-driven organizations. Besides Net Impact, I enjoy editing videos, baking muffins, and sun salutations.

Board Member 2013 I am an Ethnicity, Race, and Migration major interested in urban development, particularly in slums. My interest and experience are in human centered design and international development, as well as some corporate social responsibility.

Board Member 2013 I am a Humanities major interested in market-based solutions to poverty and international development. My experience centers on social enterprise and consulting for mission-driven organizations. Besides Net Impact, I enjoy editing videos, baking muffins, and sun salutations.

Board Member 2013 I am a prospective double major in Economics and Neurobiology, and I joined Net Impact after being captivated by its mission to help, promote, and establish socially responsible companies. I love singing, spicy food, and crazy ideas.



PIERSON 2016 I am a Cognitive Science major interested in applying insights from psychology and behavioral economics to drive social impact. Specializing in choice architecture, I hope to "nudge" organizations to adopt stronger Corporate Social Responsibility programs and refocus on a social mission. Besides Net Impact, I am an aspiring novelist, a perspiring martial artist, a hopeful marathoner, and a hopeless dreamer.

SILLIMAN 2016 I am an English major interested in the intersection of the private and public sectors and the ways in which socially minded institutions can be used to drive positive change. My experience has largely been in consulting for organizations with strong social missions. In my free time I enjoy reading in the sunshine, Super Smash Brothers and imitating accents.
